Forest Fire Statistics by Province/Territory/Agency, 1990-2013
Comments
NL

NS
2003 - 2003
Area burned is rounded to nearest full hectare.

NB
1995 - 1995
Amounts based on forested areas burned, including slash and cutovers.  Does not include grass and dump fires.

QC
1994 - 1999
Since 1994, property losses have not been evaluated.
Standing timber is not included in the calculation of property losses.

ON
2005 - 2005
In 2005, Ontario implemented a new forest fire management strategy which outlines six fire management zones, rather than the four outlined in previous strategies.  Each new zone is associated with a revised level of protection, and fire management direction.  Although the data presented in this report is based on these new fire management zones, it has been transformed to meet the requirements of the National Forestry Database.
