6.3  Size of Harvest Area by Ownership for the Latest Period Calculated

The maximum cutblock size is 40 hectares Coast Forest Region, and the following parts of the Southern Interior Forest Region:
Arrow Boundary Forest District;
Cascades Forest District;
Columbia Forest District, Headwaters
   Forest District, except the portion of    the forest district that is in the
   Robson Valley Timber Supply Area;
Kamloops Forest District;
Kootenay Lake Forest District;
Okanagan Shuswap Forest District;
Rocky Mountain Forest District

The maximum cutblock size is 60 ha in the Northern Interior Forest Regions and the following parts of the Southern Interior Forest Region:
100 Mile House Forest District;
Central Cariboo Forest District;
Chilcotin Forest District

All regions            27.8 ha

Coast Forest
Region                 23.1 ha

Southern Interior
Forest Region       29.1 ha

Northern Interior
Forest Region       29.0 ha

The maximum cutblock size does not apply where

(a) timber harvesting

(i) is being carried out on the cutblock

(A) to recover timber damaged by fire, insect infestation, wind or other similar events, or

(B) sanitation treatments, or

(ii) is designed to be consistent with the structural characteristics and the temporal and spatial distribution of an opening that would result from a natural disturbance, and

(b) the holder ensures, to the extent practicable, that the structural characteristics of the cutblock after timber harvesting has been substantially completed resemble an opening that would result from a natural disturbance

(c) the timber harvesting that is being carried out on the cutblock retains 40% or more of basal area of the stand that was on the cutblock before timber harvesting

(d) no point within the net area to be reforested is

(i) more than two tree lengths from either

(A) the cutblock boundary, or

(B) a group of trees reserved from harvesting that is greater than or equal to 0.25 ha in size, or

(ii) more than one tree length from a group of trees reserved from timber harvesting that is less than 0.25 ha in size.
