Forest Products - Background
A multitude of products can be harvested from the forest. Some of them are roundwood, such as industrial roundwood and fuelwood, firewood, maple products, and Christmas trees.
| ROUNDWOOD | Before 1990, Statistics Canada received provincial crown land information from the provincial/territorial agencies responsible for forest management, and made its own estimates for private land information. Beginning in 1990, the National Forestry Database receives all the information from the provincial/territorial and federal agencies responsible for forest management with some details for Ontario private lands as estimates. |
| CHRISTMAS TREES | Mainly pine and balsam fir. Data on the production of Christmas trees for the years before 1990 are available only from Christmas tree grower associations. |
| MAPLE PRODUCTS | Includes syrup, sugar, taffy, and butter. The totals for maple products are compiled by Statistics Canada. |
